Don’t let your creative expression take a back seat!

We’re going to calm the constant chatter of our minds and practice seeing with simplicity. 

Just like when we unconsciously catch a ball that’s thrown to us, contour drawing is a hand eye

exercise that can produce sketches or very finished pieces. Contour drawing is an outline

drawing, where our main concentration is to interrupt the urge to constantly look down at what

we’re drawing. We’re focusing up and out at the still life in front of us and only looking at our

drawing 10% of the time.

This is a way of seeing differently, it hinders our internal critical voice and allows our hand eye

connection a chance to develop. It’s also fun!

On tinted paper we’ll use three shades of a chalk called conté, one to draw our outline the other

two for light and shadow to create the form
