Drawing a Landscape Study

Here’s a chance to play with more than one medium in your drawing. On watercolor paper, we’ll use a gray watercolor pencil wet and dry, and a few chalk pastels to add a hint of color to our study. 

When looking at a landscape our eyes are drawn to scan the horizon where the earth and sky meet, creating a sense of calm. To continue this feeling we’ll be working on a small scale from photographs taken of local scenery. By developing the drawing slowly we can allow the details to emerge and retreat until we find a balance we’re happy with.
